Privy Series
The original series with a
limited edition of 300,000 pieces per motif are usually quickly sold
out, which is why Bayern LB, as distributor of the Perth Mint, was able
to establish the "Privy Mark" series. The Privy Mark symbol (special
characters) for the Lunar series is a lion from the Free State of
Bavaria. The circulation is usually between 50,000 and 100,000 coins.
Except for the P (Privy Mark) and the lions picture, the coins are
identical to the original series.
General Product description
Issued annually since 1987, the trusted releases offer an outstanding choice of pure gold, silver and platinum coins, each authorised by the
Australian Government as official legal tender.
Perth Mint started with Lunar Series III coin program with gold and silver variants in 2020 due to the popularity of this series’ first iteration (Lunar Series I+II). These coins honor the animals in the Chinese Zodiac, and have become one of the most awaited annual coin releases in the
world.
Extremely popular with investors, Australian Lunar coins celebrate the 12 animals of the Chinese lunar calendar. In 2020, the coin artistry
portrays a Mouse on the 99.99% pure gold releases marking the Year of the Mouse.
Obverses of these bullion gold coins bear the familiar Ian Rank-Broadley rendition of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse sides of these gold coins,
on the other hand, celebrate 2017 – the Year of the Rooster - according to the Chinese calendar. A Rooster is depicted on this side, accompanied by the Chinese character for ‘Rooster’ above it.
The Australian Lunar Coins are available in multiple sizes and mintages. Production of the coins with unlimited mintages will
close at the end of the year when The Perth Mint will declare each coin's official mintage. A maximum mintage of 30,000 1oz gold coins
applies. Production will cease when the mintage is fully sold or at the end of the series, whichever comes first.
