The Big Five series from the South African Mint is dedicated to the five most famous animals in Africa: the lion, the elephant, the rhino, the buffalo and the leopard. The term Big Five comes from the hunter vocabulary. These five animals were particularly difficult to hunt for big game hunters in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Luckily, today they are only shot with the camera. Each coin released is limited to 500 pieces. In addition, each copy is provided with a certificate of authenticity and delivered protected in a safety capsule. These beautiful and exciting coins are minted by the South African Mint (also publisher of the popular Krugerrand).

The first coins of the Big Five series appeared in the years 2019 to 2021 - the Big Five I. We are currently in the second phase of the series mentioned. From 2021 to 2023 new motifs of the elephant, the rhino, the buffalo, the leopard and the lion will be available in stores. The motifs are changed on the front, while the motif on the value side remains the same. Below the depicted animal is the coat of arms of South Africa. On the left the name "South Africa" ​​and on the right the year with coin names.
