  • Maple Leaf 1 Ounce Silver Coin 2023

Named after the maple leaf, this Canadian silver coin is the most common bullion coin in the world. Minted since 1988, the Maple Leaf coin is official currency in Canada. Mint is the Royal Canadian Mint with headquarters in Ottawa. The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) was founded in 1908 as a branch of the British Royal Mint before it was placed under the supervision of the Minister of Finance of Canada. The maple leaf motif on the Maple Leaf silver coin, which remains the same each year, is identical to the gold, platinum, palladium version.

Parallel to the classic Maple Leaf, there have always been special editions, which tend to be classified as collector coins. These include those silver coins with a Privy Mark (a side stamp), the special edition for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010 or the anniversary edition for the "25th birthday of the Maple Leaf silver coin". Other (anniversary) issues, some of which featured a modified "Maple Leaf" motif, were always mini-edition and minted as a (proof) version (polished plate), had been intended exclusively for the collector market. (1/2-ounce, 1kg silver coin)

    Front

On the motif side of the Maple Leaf silver 2023 is a maple leaf depicted, to the right and left of each is 9999, above CANADA and at the bottom edge of the coin presents the bilingualism in Canada on the Maple Leaf 1 ounce gold coins with English FINE SiILVER, 1 OZ and French ARGENT PUR. The maple leaf, which means Maple Leaf in English, was at the same time also name-giving for the coins.

Since 2015, the 1 oz silver has been available with additional security features on the back. In addition to the complex, radial line structures, the last two digits of the current year of issue are depicted in a small, textured maple leaf.

    Back

The value side features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, minimally altered and adjusted within the last few years (showing monarch at ages 39, 64 and 79, respectively: 1988-89, 1990-2004 and 2005 onwards). Above the portrait is stamped ELIZABETH II and below it the face value and the year of issue. On the Maple Leaf 2023, the years of her reign - 1952 to 2022 - were added.

The silver coin is only available in the 1-ounce version. There are no others like the gold Maple Leaf.
