The Panda gold coin of the People's Republic of China was first presented to the world public in 1982. The official mint is the China Mint. The current official issuing authority is the China Gold Coin Incorporation. The China Panda coins are made of pure gold and have a fineness of 999/1,000.
The motif of the panda bear changed annually until 2000, in 2001 and 2002 it was the same, from 2003 is again changing annually. The year of issue 2015 was minted without weight indication due to the Measurement Law. This law states that only the metric system may be used in the People's Republic of China. Since 2016, the China Panda has been issued in both silver and gold with a weight indication in grams. In silver, the denomination of 30 grams is given the nominal value of 10 yuan; in gold, the denomination of 8 grams is given 100 yuan, 15 grams is given 200 yuan and 30 grams is given 500 yuan.
Sometimes very high collector prices are achieved by pandas of older year of issue and are highly sought after because of their motifs. The Gold Panda is one of the top collector coins. The same applies to the China Panda Silver.
The motif side always shows the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. (Pinyin: zhng huá rén mín gòng he guó; People's Republic of China). The year of issue is written on the bottom.
The back shows portraits of pandas, which are different each year, except for 2001 and 2002, these years have the same image.
The "giant panda" (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), as it is scientifically called, belongs to the bear family and lives in subtropical regions with dense forests. Its range extends over only three Chinese provinces. The panda is not only the national symbol of China, but also of the WWF.
On the edge of the motif side of the China Panda gold coin is stamped the weight and face value in YUAN. The latter has a special feature. The first issue in 1982 did not have an imprinted face value. Beginning in 1983, a face value in yuan was imprinted, which was increased four to five times on all coin sizes beginning in 2001.
