Named after the maple leaf, this Canadian coin is the world's most common bullion coin after the Krugerrand. Minted since 1979, the Maple Leaf coin is official currency in Canada. The fineness was increased from 1982 to 999.9/1000.
The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) was founded in 1908 as a branch of the British Royal Mint before it was placed under the supervision of the Minister of Finance of Canada. The company says it produces 15 million coins every working day. The Canadian dollar coins are issued in the name of and on behalf of the Canadian monarch.
On the front is a maple leaf depicted, to the right and left of each is 9999, above CANADA and at the bottom coin edge presents the bilingualism in Canada on the Maple Leaf 1/2 ounce gold coins with English FINE GOLD, 1/2 OZ and French OR PUR. The maple leaf, which means Maple Leaf in English, was at the same time also name-giving for the coins.
Since 2015, the 1/2 oz gold coin has been available with additional security features on the reverse. In addition to the complex radial line structures, the last two digits of the current year are depicted in a small, textured maple leaf.
On the values side we see King Charles III without a crown. This image of his majesty was created before his coronation. The designer is the Canadian artist Steven Rosati. We see his initials SR right at the level of King Charles' collar.

The gold coin comes in 1oz ($50), 1/2oz ($20), 1/4 oz ($10), 1/10 oz ($5) and 1/20 oz ($1) denominations.
