Since 1989, the “Vienna Philharmonic” has been minted by the Austrian Mint, a subsidiary of the Austrian National Bank. The motif has remained the same ever since, only the year of issue has changed. The coin is particularly popular in Japan and North America.
The 1 ounce gold of the Vienna Philharmonic is an official means of payment with a nominal value of 100 euros. Like all Philharmoniker coins, it has the highest fineness of 999.9. That means: it is made of pure gold. The current gold price is the basis for calculating the price of the 1 ounce Vienna Philharmonic gold coin as an investment coin.
The face of the gold coin depicts the six different instruments that are typical of the orchestra. In the middle is a cello, on the right and left a violin and next to it a viola. Behind the stringed instruments, from left to right, are a horn, a bassoon, and a harp. The inscription reads "Vienna Philharmonic".
The organ from the "Golden Hall" is shown on the reverse. The instrument is surrounded by the lettering "Republic of Austria". The lower third of the coin shows the denomination, the fineness, the year of minting and the face value.
