The ¼ ounce Britannia gold coin - various vintages

As the national figure of Great Britain, Britannia represents wisdom and state community. She is a well-known and widely used symbol of the sea power and defense of Great Britain. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Royal Mint Ltd. has chosen the Britannia as a motif for a gold coin since 1987. Since 2020, the Royal Mint Ltd. has further developed the Britannia coin and incorporated new security features that make it even harder to make counterfeits of this coin. You can read more about this below in the text.  

Between the outer circle and the wavy background, a very small printed Latin lettering can be discovered. This lettering reads "DECUS ET TUTAMEN", which translates to "SILENCE AND DEFENSE".

Front

The motif side shows the image of Britannia wearing a helmet and robe. In her hands we see a small olive branch and a trident, while she holds the shield with British flag. Britannia represents wisdom and a state community. The design is by P. Nathan.

The value side of the coin features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth the II. The Britannia gold coins have been modified over the years and security features have been added.
